Our Pottery
Our beautiful and functional pottery pieces were hand-thrown by skilled and talented local potters.
Wanda is the wife of a retired Mennonite pastor (he married Cathy & her husband!), and has been making pottery since 1976, when she decided to take classes in Palmerston, Ontario, and became hooked! She loved the art form so much that she invested in her own wheel & kiln, and throwing pots has now become a full-time “hobby”! As well as being extremely pleasing to the eye, Wanda’s mugs, tea-pots, bowls, butter-dishes, serving platters and pie plates are useful in your home, and so they are all oven-proof.
Pavlo and Oksana studied pottery and fine art in Kiev, Ukraine, and their pottery pieces reflect this influence and training. When he came to Canada, Pavlo honed his skills by studying with a potter whose work is in many private and public galleries including the National Museum of Civilization in Ottawa and the Glenbow Gallery Permanent Collection in Alberta.
Pavlo and Oksana create their striking serving pieces, wine glasses, coffee mugs, bowls, butter-dishes, and garlic keepers in their nearby studio. Their pieces are functional and beautifully distinctive.
Esther’s inspiration for her beautiful pottery comes from three sources: her garden, textile arts & the beautiful pots that she saw while living in Japan.
She loves to incorporate elements from the garden, such as the texture of leaves and seed pods, into the making of her pots. Esther is a lover of quilts, and when she is not in her potting studio, she is at her sewing machine--she often rolls out a slab of clay and treats it like a piece of cloth by building in “quilts” of texture and cutting out pieces to be assembled.
While living in Japan, Esther learned to appreciate the hands that made a pot through fingerprints, slight ‘imperfections’, and gifts from the ‘kiln gods’. Every one of Esther’s pieces are lovingly hand made, and she says that if you can still see traces of her hands in her work, she is pleased!
